General Info for NTIP Teachers

NTIP is a Ministry mandated program designed to assist New Teachers in their first year(s) teaching. It consists of a mentorship program, resources (to borrow or keep), workshops, networking, and creating a strategy for long-term success and ongoing professional development.

Here is the information you need to know for the time being:

Communications and General Information

Please review the 2 following documents asap (located in the Beginning Teacher page):

  • General NTIP Info doc
  • NTIP Orientation slides

Email will still be our main method of communication. I will periodically send out reminders, invitations, etc.

NTIP Teams and Mentors

This year, all NTIP Teachers will be grouped by division/subject being taught. During our mandatory Orientation session (dates to be sent out), we will separate into smaller groups based on the areas of growth we choose to focus on during our session. Each NTIP Team will work with an NTIP Mentor during this process and throughout the year. You do not need to choose this Mentor. More details will be provided at the Orientation.
You should also speak with your principal to find mentors within your school who can assist with more day-to-day issues. You do not need to send that name to the NTIP Consultant.

If you would like further mentoring, here’s a roster list of people who have been Mentor’s in the past.

Release Time

NTIP provides release time for NTIP Teams and Mentors throughout the year. Some of this time is used by our Orientation sessions, and some will be decided by you and your Team.
More information, including available dates, will be provided asap.

NTIP Meetups

Here is what you need to know:

  • Meetups are an opportunity to network with your fellow new colleagues and share your best practices
  • Each Meetup may take different formats, but will mostly consist of multiple sessions covering multiple topics (Assessment & Evaluation, Report Card Writing, Special Education, Parent/Teacher Conferences, New Pedagogies for Deeper Learning, and much more)
  • Sessions will be led by our board’s Consultants, Principals, Superintendents, and other experienced educators
  • Meetups will take place 4-5 times throughout the year, roughly every 2 months.
  • Your attendance enters you into draws for prizes such as free educational resources and extra money towards AQ courses (more information on this in the AQ Course Subsidy section of this email)
  • Dinner is provided
  • Attending a Meetup will result in a certificate you can add to your professional portfolio

These are a unique opportunity for you to connect with other New Teachers, as well as our experienced session leaders. A strong commitment to professional development is essential to long-term success as an educator, and your attendance will help start your career on the right path.

Individual NTIP Strategy Form

The Individual NTIP Strategy Form is your working document while you are in the program. You are required to use this form to track your participation in the program. It is designed to be filled by you in consultation with your Mentor and Principal. Therefore, it encourages dialogue between all parties to ensure you receive a breadth of information and experience as you plan for and work towards your goals for the year. Once you have completed the program, you and your Principal must sign the document and submit to me via Google Classroom. Completion of this form is mandatory.
